Green turtle in ink

Liquitex ink, FW pearlescent liquid acrylic on 300gsm watercolour paper.

The shell was done in turquoise, and then I did a wash of green over the body before doing the painstaking work of painting in each little circle…

I had to fill in piece by piece, starting with non-adjacent circles, and then coming back to fill in the gaps once those had dried.

I finished off with the pearlescent ink over parts of the shell, which neither photographs nor scans very well, but trust me that shell is SHINY.

The scan also didn’t seem to pick up the green hues very well.
